The Minnesota Wild are at the center of a hockey conversation and it’s not for a good reason. During their Tuesday night matchup against the Nashville Predators, Wild winger Marcus Johansson scored one of the most controversial goals in recent memory.
As the finisher of an impressive passing play between Kirill Kaprizov and Brock Faber, Johansson was netfront and tapped the puck in the back of the net — well where the net was supposed to be. It just so happened that the net was already dislodged from it’s posts in the ice and was sliding away by the time the veteran winger shot the puck.
The NHL awarded Johansson and the Wild the goal and the win, and later ruled that Predators netminder Justus Annunen was at fault for the net being off its moorings, so therefore the goal counts because Johansson was going to do that anyways. Really interesting stuff. There’s always something crazy happening to this team.
