Denis Shapovalov took home his fourth career title in Los Cabos, completing a dominant title run that saw him drop just 18 games through four rounds. The Canadian, 26, took out American Aleks Kovacevic, 6-4, 6-2, and became the sixth ATP player to claim multiple titles thus far in 2025.
“It’s amazing, Shapovalov said. “To win three titles in the span of like seven months, it’s incredible. After winning my first title I struggled there for a little while – I had good results but wasn’t able to go through to get another trophy.
“It’s not easy out here but weeks like this make it worth while.”
Shapovalov, who defeated three Top-10 players to claim the ATP 500 title in Dallas in February, hit 15 winners against 22 unforced errors and took the play to Kovacevic in the first ATP final featuring two one-handed backhands since Stefanos Tsitsipas defeated Dominic Thiem in the ATP Finals title match in 2019.
Shapovalov is up five spots in the live rankings, to No.33, while Kovacevic is slated to jump 10 spots to a career-high 66 on Monday after reaching his second final of 2025. Shapovalov saved the only break point he faced and broke Kovacevic three times, including twice in the final set as he pulled away and raced to victory in 74 minutes.
