Clara Tauson had never won a match at Wimbledon prior to this year. She had never even won a match on grass at tour-level prior to 2025.

It was always a matter of time for the talented Dane, and that time is now.

In a season that has seen the 22-year-old record her first ever win over a reigning World No.1 and rise to the cusp of the Top-20, Tauson continued her rise on Saturday, toppling 2022 champion Elena Rybakina 7-6(6) 6-3 to reach the round of 16.

“It was amazing to play here today, even though it was a little rainy,” Tauson said. “Before this grass season started I had never won a match on grass, so I’m super proud and super happy with the way I played today.” On an overcast, sometimes drizzly, afternoon, 23rd-seeded Tauson took it to the No.11 seed and saved each of the four break points she faced as she matched her best career performance at a major.

The only Danish woman in this year’s Wimbledon draw gets her first Top 20 win on grass and equals the best performance by a Danish woman at Wimbledon, notched by former World No.1 Caroline Wozniacki on six occasions.

Rybakina had previously held a 2-0 edge over Tauson in the pair’s head-to-head. Tauson, who defeated Heather Watson and Anna Kalinskaya in her previous two rounds, will face either Iga Swiatek or Danielle Collins in the round of 16.

Andreeva Cruises

18-year-old Mirra Andreeva powered past Hailey Baptiste 6-1, 6-3 to book her spot in the second week, the Russian needing just 78 minutes to get past the 23-year-old American.

Andreeva is back in the second week for the second time in three career appearances – she lost in the first round last year.

Switzerland’s Belinda Bencic also advanced, winning a final set tiebreak to defeat Italy’s Elisabetta Cocciaretto, 6-4 3-6 7-6(7), while Luidmila Samsonova took out Daria Kasatkina 6-2, 6-3, to set a fourth-round match with Spain’s Jessica Bouzas Maneiro.

Bouzas Maneiro reached the round of 16 at a major for the first time with a 6-1, 2-6, 6-3 win over Dayana Yastremska.
