There is one thing particularly devastating about all winning streaks, no matter how grand they may be: they must end.

And so went the 13-match winning streak of 17-year-old Mirra Andreeva on Sunday night in Miami, taken down by talented power broker Amanda Anisimova, 7-6(5) 2-6 6-3.

“Mirra is an amazing player, so I knew it was going to be really tough,” Anisimova said. “I was super excited to play here – even though this is like my fourth Miami Open this is my first time playing on the big stadium. It’s really special.” 17th-seeded Anisimova took advantage of a lethargic start from the Russian, who had reeled off back-to-back 1000-level titles in Dubai and Indian Wells before arriving to Miami with a new Top-10 ranking of No.6 in the world.

Anisimova, who resides in Southern Florida, was up for the challenge from the start. And she has had a fine season as well, winning the Doha title in February and making her Top 20 debut.

Anisimova is into the round of 16 at Miami for the first time. She fought off a pair of break points in the second game of the final set, and broke in the next game for 2-1. She then saved another pair of break points to hold for 3-1, and would never trail in the final set.

“She’s not someone that’s easy to play, she makes it really difficult for me to be comfortable with my game, so I’m just really happy with the way I was fighting,” Anisimova said

Anisimova, playing at her career-high ranking of No.17, earns her 10th Top 10 win, and sets a fourth-round clash with Emma Raducanu.
