Sebastian Baez continues to be a formidable force at any clay-court tournament he enters. The 24-year-old reached his third final of the season with a 6-2, 6-2 win over 2024 Bucharest champion Marton Fucsovics at the Tiriac Open in Bucharest on Saturday, setting a final with Italy’s Flavio Cobolli.
“We have sun for the first time here,” Beez said, referring to this week’s chilly conditions in the Romanian capital. “Of course I’m happy to be in a new final.”
Baez played cleaner tennis than his counterpart. Fucsovics made 24 forehand winners and seemed to struggle physically as the Argentinian broke his serve four times from 10 opportunities.
Baez, up to 12-6 on the season, saved all six break points he faced.
“I was focused all the time, and I think that made the difference,” he said.
Top-seeded Baez will bid for his eighth ATP title on Sunday.
Cobolli reached his second ATP final and first on clay with a 6-3, 6-0 win over Damir Dzumhur. The third-seeded Italian, ranked 45, has never faced Baez on tour before.
