Fonseca Sets Fritz Clash
On the men’s side Brazil’s Joao Fonseca also picked up his first grass-court main draw win. The 18-year-old defeated Zizou Bergs 6-7(8) 6-0 6-3 to set a second-round match with American Taylor Fritz.
Fonseca, who has now tallied 13 main draw wins on tour in 2025, is the youngest player to win a match at Eastbourne since Fritz in 2015.
57th-ranked Fonseca had lost his first two main draw matches on grass. He will also be making his Wimbledon main draw debut next week.
