He needed five match points to get over the line, but Daniil Medvedev managed to maintain his supremacy over Alexander Zverev in the pair’s 20th overall meeting, and first on grass, 7-6(3) 6-7(1) 6-4.

Medvedev snapped a run of five consecutive losses in ATP semifinals and improved to 13-7 lifetime against the German as he stretched his winning streak over his rival to five.

Zverev made him work for it.

The World No.3 saved three match points in the second set, eventually coming through in a tiebreak to force a decider. But he was broken early in the third and could never recover the break as Medvedev sailed into his 39th career final, and second at Halle (2022).

After breaking for 2-1 in the final set, Medvedev saved four break points in the fourth game then won 12 out of his final 15 service points to lock down the victory in two hours and 59 minutes. “I’m happy with my level, I played great,” Medvedev said, adding: “I could have done much better than when I had the break in the second. What I’m happy about is that I managed to stay more composed and managed to save those break points.”
