Elina Svitolina is enjoying elevated status in France these days. The wife of revered French icon Gael Monfils hopes to get more of that support on Sunday when she contests the Rouen final against Serbia’s Olga Danilovic.

Svitolina raced past Romania’s Elena-Gabriela Ruse 6-0, 6-2 on Saturday, and will bid for her 18th WTA final against Danilovic, who defeated Suzan Lamens, 6-4, 6-4.

Svitolina needed just 61 minutes as she hit 18 winners, broke serve five times, and never faced a break point against Ruse.

Svitolina is bidding for her first title since Strasbourg ‘23.

There was extra motivation for Svitolina in Rouen today, as she told the crowd that her husband told her that if she reached the final he would try his best to make it to Rouen for the final.

“The big motivation for me was when Gael told me at the beginning of the tournament that he would come if I played the final, so probably he will come to support me tomorrow,” Svitolina said.

“It’s always an amazing experience to be in the final,” Svitolina said. “For me it’s always been about the titles, and I want to win another one here.”

Danilovic is bidding for her third career title – she has never faced Svitolina before.
