Paris – Day 3 of Roland-Garros will see the conclusion of first-round action, as three-time champion Novak Djokovic, Coco Gauff and others take the court.
See the Day 3 Order of Play here. Here’s what we’ll be keeping tabs on.
Century Man Returns
Djokovic, fresh off his 100th ATP title on Saturday in Geneva, kicks off his 21st appearance at Roland-Garros with a first-round match with American Mackenzie McDonald. The 38-year-old legend is bidding for his 25th Grand Slam title, and fourth in Paris.
Gauff a Potential Champ?
Coco Gauff, 2022 finalist on the terre battue, enters Tuesday’s clash with Australia’s Olivia Gadecki. If Iga Swiatek and Aryna Sabalenka falter in Paris, one would be crazy not to pencil the American, who reached back-to-back finals in Madrid in Rome, as a potential champion. But she knows that the end result is up to her, because “literally anyone” can win the tournament.
“Obviously I hope that I'm up there,” the 21-year-old said, before adding: “But there is Jasmine [Paolini], Aryna [Sabalenka], Iga [Swiatek], Qinwen [Zheng], Mirra [Andreeva]. There's some more I can name that all have the opportunity. Who knows? We all have seen things like US Open happen when Emma [Raducanu] won. So literally anybody can win this tournament.
“I think that's what makes women's tennis exciting. I think this is why everyone should tune in, because, I feel like it's maybe not so much on the men where maybe you have maybe the top three or four you know who's going to win. I think women there's so many possibilities so it makes each matchup equally exciting.”
Fonseca and Hurkacz on 7
The final match on Court 7 promises to be a spectacle, as Brazil’s Joao Fonseca will make his Roland-Garros debut against Hubert Hurkacz. After witnessing the vibes around Beatriz Haddad Maia’s matches at Roland-Garros in 2023, we are pretty confident that the atmosphere is going to be absolutely insane. Hurkacz, who has reached the round of 16 twice in Paris, is always a good draw, so expect absolute madness in what could become a late-night thriller in Paris.
In other action around the grounds, 2024 semifinalist Mirra Andreeva faces Cristina Bucsa of Spain on Court Suzanne-Lenglen, while Corentin Moutet takes the court against compatriot Clement Tabur on Simonne-Mathieu.
Along with Gauff on Chatrier, Sofia Kenin, who kicks off the day against Varvara Gracheva. Gael Monfils, the human highlight reel, will take the night session against Hugo Dellien.
