Raducanu v Vondrousova Popcorn

Marketa Vondrousova exited Wimbledon in a less than desirable manner last year, as the first defending women’s singles champion to lose in the first round since 1994, but since then Vondrousova has undergone shoulder surgery and come out the other side. She’s back at Wimbledon, and finally feeling healthy again ahead of her second-round clash with Emma Raducanu.

It will be an intriguing battle of (surprise) Grand Slam champions on Centre Court on Wednesday. Vondrousova holds the 2-1 edge but Raducanu took their only meeting on grass at Wimbledon in ‘21.

Pick: Vondrousova in three tense sets

Fritz’s Next Challenge

He untangled himself from the clutches of bomb (153 mph!) serving Giovanni Mpetshi Perricard on Tuesday, but Taylor Fritz is not exactly out of hot water yet. Next he’ll face Canadian Gabriel Diallo, the 23-year-old World No.40 who claimed the title at ‘S-Hertogenbosch earlier this summer. Diallo, who raced past Daniel Altmaier for his maiden Wimbledon win on Day 1, is now 9-2 on grass this season.

But Fritz showed his mettle in his first round win over the Frenchman, rallying from two sets to love down for the fourth time. He has won two titles on grass already this season, and has high expectations this year at SW19. He fell in five sets to Lorenzo Musetti last year in the quarterfinals and hopes to get further in ‘25.

Pick: Fritz in Four, with two tiebreak wins

Siniakova’s Time to Shine?

We know Katerina Siniakova as a formidable doubles stalwart, but she has game on the singles court as well. But how much? We’ll find out on Wednesday as the Czech, who took out fifth-seeded Zheng Qinwen in the first-round on Tuesday, will take aim at four-time Grand Slam champion Naomi Osaka.

It’s a thrilling matchup, as the pair have split two meeting, with Siniakova knocking Osaka out of Roland-Garros in 2019 in the third round. Both players will be attempting to match their career-best Wimbledon result, in a section that is now wide open after Zheng’s upset loss.

Pick: Siniakova in three, after a turbulent battle

Enjoy.
