When Moose Calls To Say Goodnight

by news-sportpulse_admin

The premise of the latest Trending Wild video is that Marcus Foligno, our precious Mama Moose, is in cahoots with the admin to call and tell his teammates to have a good night. This is a trend that was popular over the summer, but was a fun addition to the team’s first long road trip.

Here’s what we learned from the video:

Full Government Names?

First of all, every teammate that Moose calls has their full first and last government name in Marcus’s contacts. As someone who has a mix of full names (like my grandma, for some reason?) and ridiculous nicknames (Sisster Bear, with two Ss for my sister), I find it fascinating that someone as silly billy as Foligno would have Boldy in his contacts as Matthew Boldy. But maybe he changed their names specifically for the video. This may be a mystery that we will never solve.

Fabes Is So Gen Z That It Hurts

Brock Faber answers his phone, immediately suspicious of what in the world Foligno is doing, but I love that after he calls Moose out for the trend, he plays along and tells him to “sleep good, dude.” It is no surprise that he is chronically online enough to know the trend, and it also isn’t a surprise that he answers his phone by saying “yo,” which is really only a step away from the original “ahoy ahoy” greeting that telephone inventor Alexander Graham Bell was angling for.

Buium Likes the Mama Moose Love

As the youngest member of the team, Zeev Buium seems to be walking the line between genuinely touched by Moose’s call to tell him good night and suspicious that something is afoot. He must not be as chronically online as Faber. But Moose calling the rookies just to check in could very well be a regular occurrence. He takes his role as Mama Moose very seriously, after all.

Gustavsson Enjoys A Shared TeeHee

The best part of Filip Gustavsson’s phone call is that he actually texted a TikTok to Moose during the Buium phone call. It’s so nice to know that they’re just like me and my bestie. Was Gustavsson part of the original phone call roster, or did they see that message notification pop up, and they figured he’d be next on the list?

Either way, he picks up the call after exactly one ring, meaning that he’s just as dependable off the ice as he is on the ice. But before they end the call, Gustavsson says something that sounds like “don’t laugh too much.” Is it because Foligno is generally a bit giggly during his little video prank? Or do they share silly TikToks enough that Gustavsson doesn’t want him to stay up all night laughing at them?

Sneaky Snark Queen Rossi

Foligno’s next victim is Marco Rossi, who answers almost right away. Right from the jump, Rossi scoffs at Foligno as soon as Moose tells him to have a good night. He knows that the good night wish is not entirely genuine, even if Foligno does mean it. You can practically hear Rossi rolling his eyes from the other side of the connection. He probably looked just like he did that time that he rolled his eyes at Matthew Tkachuk’s shenanigans.

He does send Moose a text message almost immediately with three crying laughing emojis, which just adds to the sass.

Eriksson Ek Requires A Passenger Pigeon

Marcus Foligno makes a valiant attempt to reach fellow former member of the GREEF line, Joel Eriksson Ek. But in an incredibly predictable outcome, Ek has his phone on Do Not Disturb already. It is a game night, after all. The phone offers Foligno the ability to leave a message for…long silence. Foligno rightly assumes that Ekkie might have been kidnapped, which seems in line with him taking penalties for being punched in the face or, as last night, receiving facial injuries with blood and not getting a power play out of it.

Honestly, there’s a good chance that Joel didn’t even check that voicemail because he probably just knows it wasn’t anything he actually needed to listen to.

Spurgeon Is Absolutely A Suburban Dad in His Mid-30s

If Foligno is the Mom of the locker room, Jared Spurgeon is definitely the Dad. He proves that by answering the phone by saying “wazzup,” originally popularized by Budweiser in their commercials in the late 90s. Even funnier is that Moose predicts that greeting, showing just how in tune they are with each other. The parents we all wish that we had, which bodes well for our young players.

Spurgeon tries his hardest to “ruin” the video by swearing more than a few times, which just makes the entire thing even funnier.

Boldy Screens His Calls

There is a 90% chance that Matthew Boldy originally screened Foligno’s phone call, but then must have felt bad about it and decided to call back. Both he and Foligno use each other’s full first names.

“Hey, Matthew.”

“What’s Up, Marcus?”

Boldy takes the good night wishes in stride, probably assuming that Foligno is just being a sentimental Mama Moose that night. Then, he automatically hangs up his phone, probably vowing not to call back next time.

Hartman and Foligno Hit the Town

The last call is not the most exciting, but we do get two important pieces of information. The first is that Hartman and Boldy are hanging out together, and by the sounds of it, Boldy didn’t give Hartman any advanced warning as to what the phone call would be about.

The second is that Foligno and Hartman toured the White House together, and while some people have tried to connect that with politics, I think that Mama Moose just likes to see the landmarks, and this time, Hartman agreed to accompany him.

Interestingly enough, Hartman tells Foligno to call Bogosian next, but the video ends there. Did Bogo get a call? Or was Foligno ready to go to sleep after all of the good night wishes?

Wallstedt Felt Left Out

The next morning, admin posted a picture of Jesper Wallstedt staring intently at the camera with the caption “the look admin got right before he skated over and said ‘so what was the requirement to get a goodnight call?’” Without getting too tsk-tsk, hopefully Wallstedt will be included in the next social media video because we all know how much he loves mischief.
