Emma Navarro knocked Naomi Osaka out of Wimbledon last year, en route to her first career quarterfinal at the All England Club.
She did the same on Tuesday, handing the four-time Grand Slam champion a 6-4 6-4 defeat to reach the quarterfinals at the Bad Homburg Open in Germany.
Navarro, who has won consecutive matches on tour for the first time since April, will face Jessica Pegula in the quarterfinals. She won 62 percent of her second serve points and broke Osaka’s serve three times as she improved to 2-0 lifetime over the Japanese star.
“I think I played a lot of good tennis,” Navarro said. “So did she, and she made it really tough on me.”
Swiatek into Quarters
In other action, Iga Swiatek kicked off her 2025 grass court season with a 6-4, 6-4 win over two-time major champion Victoria Azarenka. That marks the Pole’s 300th career WTA win and makes her the 11th fastest woman to achieve the feat. Swiatek will face either Ekaterina Alexandrova or Maria Sakkari in the quarterfinals. The 24-year-old improves to 16-7 lifetime on grass. She reached the semifinals at Bad Homburg in 2023, her best grass-court performance to date.
